The Flight Instructor Certificates

A flight instructor certificate allows you to give flight and ground instruction, to teach others how to fly.
There are three types of flight instructor certificates.

1.Instructor certificate (CFI)
Allows you to teach in aircraft in VFR conditions
2.Instrument Instructor (CFII)
Allows you to teach instrument flying to the students
3.Mutli Instructor (MEI, MEII)
Allows you to teach in twin engine aircraft.

Must hold a second class medical.
Must have an instrument rating if you want to teach instrument flying.
There is no flight time requirement for these ratings other than 5 hours in make and model if you are going to teach in twin engine aircraft.

After you have met these requirements, you are ready for your flight instructor checkrides (flight test).

Costs
The cost for the flight instructor ratings is about $1000.00 for each rating, VFR, IFR, and Multi. The cost should include ground school, all flight time, instructor fees, and misc. items.

Time
The instructor certificates are very in-depth with lots of book work. Plan on spending many nights doing lesson plans and studying. About 8 solid weeks should be plenty.

Flight Time
Flight time can be minimal providing you are up to par on the basic maneuvers. You do, however, have to learn to fly from the right seat and work with the opposite arm. This can take some time and lots of practice. Our experience with this certificate has been that it takes about 10 to 12 lessons.
