Second New York Helicopter Crashes
June 17, 2005 A helicopter crashed into New York's East River on Friday, with preliminary reports saying the eight people on board and an onlooker who helped them were rescued, police said.

In the second such crash in four days, the corporate helicopter carrying six passengers and two pilots took off from the 34th Street heliport and hit the water near 42nd Street and the FDR Drive highway just south of UN headquarters shortly after 4:30 p.m. (2030 GMT), police said.

Fire rescue officials said all nine people were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

On Tuesday, a tourist helicopter carrying seven people crashed into the river near the Wall Street financial district. All aboard were rescued by police divers.
